Spinning

When Sarah started working with textiles more in her creative practice, she decided that there would be no time for spinning, but it didn't take long for her interest to be ignited.  She uses a traditional drop spindle and spins tops/rovings (processed fleece) that originate from British bred sheep.  Dyed fleece is sourced from small-scale suppliers, as well as undyed fleece, the latter of which can help to create a wide ranging palette of neutral colours.

The process of hand-spinning is very meditative and she enjoys the flexibility in being able to create yarn of different thicknesses for individual weaving projects.

The drop spindles she uses are hand-crafted by Lynn at Kerry's Spindles.
