Stitching

20251206_131016.jpg

I relish in the meditative practice of hand stitching using threads made of cotton, silk and linen. I try to be as sustainable as possible, often re-using fabrics and those that have been hand dyed with natural materials. I use solar dyeing as a way to dye fabrics and threads in small quantities.

My stitched work still very much focuses on nature and the wider environment and can also encompass mixed media.

The stitching and mixed media pieces can combine a wide range of materials. I particularly enjoy using printing techniques to alter the surface of fabrics and a variety of papers.  These can include paper lithography, paper manipulation, lino and mono printing.
I then use collage to combine the materials in layers, placing them in position using stitching by hand and machine. Often including 3 dimensional objects I have collected on walks.
