Stitching

Sarah relishes in the meditative practice of hand stitching using threads made of cotton, silk and linen. She tries to be as sustainable as possible, often re-using fabrics and those that have been hand dyed with natural materials. She uses solar dyeing as a way to dye fabrics and threads in small quantities.

Her stitched work still very much focuses on nature and the wider environment and can also encompass mixed media.

Sarah's stitching and mixed media pieces can combine a wide range of materials. She particularly enjoys using printing techniques to alter the surface of fabrics and a variety of papers.  These can include paper lithography, paper manipulation, lino and mono printing.
She then uses collage to combine the materials in layers, placing them in position using stitching by hand and machine. Often including 3 dimensional objects she has collected on walks.
