Colour Map Project

Recording the Landscape
The sketchbook is the starting point for each colour map tapestry.
Recording the colours seen in the landscape in watercolour and gouache, often whilst working 'in the field'.
The resulting colour maps evoke memories from the time they were painted - the weather, features in the landscape, time of day .....
Then back in the studio the colour map is used as a reference in creating a woven tapestry, with carefully chosen colours and blends in Worsted spun wool.

Work in progress
Depicting man-made objects in the landscape.
Visiting the beach at sunset on a warm May evening, capturing the array of beach hut colours alongside the shore line. One bright red hut shining out in the fading sun.
